Baseball star Saunders honored

Former Anacortes High School baseball star Ty Saunders has earned an honor for his summer-league play.

Saunders was an All-West Coast League honorable mention after a stellar season with the Bellingham Bells.

Saunders, a middle infielder heading into his sophomore season with the University of Portland, was one of eight Bells honored in the announcement earlier this week.

A defensive standout who played as a freshman at the University of Portland before joining the wood-bat collegiate league, he played in 55 games for the Bells, including a playoff appearance.

Other players on the Bells hailed from the University of Washington, Tulane and UCLA, among others.

Saunders was an all-state selection in his senior season for Anacortes. He was the Skagit Valley Herald Baseball Player of the Year in 2019.
