WOMEN HAND IN HAND: Stephanie Fast will be the keynote speaker at the Blessed with Hope Women’s Conference presented by Women HAND in Hand, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, April 21, at North Cascades Christian Fellowship, 118 N. Ball St., Sedro-Woolley.
Fast was deserted by her mother when she was 4 or 5 years old in war-torn Korea, and nearly succumbed to premature death. She recounts her story in “She is Mine: A War Orphan’s Incredible Journey of Survival.”
Cost: $20, includes lunch. Tickets will be available at the door.
ANACORTES PRAYER BREAKFAST: Anacortes Kiwanis Sunrisers will host its second annual Anacortes Community Prayer Breakfast and Community Service Award Presentation on Wednesday, April 25, at the Port Authority Transit Shed, 100 Commercial Ave., Anacortes.
“The purpose of this event is to honor and pray for our area elected and school officials, and local police and fire chiefs,” said Sunrisers President Allen Workman.
State Sen. Barbara Bailey will be the featured speaker, and Councilman Eric Johnson will be presented with the Sunrisers’ Community Service Award.
Johnson, a former colonel and pilot in the Air Force, founded the Anacortes Family Center and the Kiwanis Aktion Club for disabled adults. He is active with the Anacortes Parks Foundation, the Anacortes Community Health Council, the Salvation Army in addition to leading an effort to support infant care and preschool facilities in Anacortes, according to a news release.
A buffet breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m., followed by the hour-long program at 8 a.m. Admission: $20 individual, $250 for a 10-person table and recognition in the program. Tickets may be purchased at kiwanissunrisers.com/breakfast.
COMMUNITY HYMN SING: Mount Vernon First Christian Reformed Church, 701 W. Blackburn Road, Mount Vernon, will host a community hymn sing at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29. No offering will be taken, and free DVDs will be given to attendees. Refreshments will be served. 360-336-2405.
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER: The annual Skagit County National Day of Prayer will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 3, on the Skagit County Courthouse steps, 205 W. Kincaid St., downtown Mount Vernon.
Local dignitaries and community leaders will pray for their sphere of influence in: government, church, business, education, family, media and military/emergency responders. The Burlington-Edison Junior ROTC Color Guard will present colors and the Mount Vernon Christian School Choir will provide music.
