A man convicted of killing his wife in 2016 at their Friday Harbor home was transferred Monday from prison to the Skagit County Community Justice Center to await a retrial.

Kevin Patrick Taylor, 58, was convicted in July 2019 in San Juan County Superior Court of second-degree murder and second-degree arson for events that left his wife dead and her vehicle burnt on Sept. 3, 2016. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

On July 6, 2021, the state Court of Appeals reversed the conviction on the basis that testimony by a prosecution witness violated several orders of the court.

Taylor's retrial is scheduled for Oct. 11. San Juan County Sheriff Ron Krebs said Taylor will be held at the Skagit County jail — where his bail is set at $500,000 — until the time of the trial, during which he will be moved to San Juan County's temporary holding facility in Friday Harbor.

The county does not operate its own jail, according to the sheriff's office website.
