WSOS SCHOLARSHIP: Fifty-six Skagit County students were awarded a total of more than $1.2 million in scholarship funding to pursue degrees in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and health care from the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship.

Each student will receive up to $22,500 in scholarship dollars, as well as mentorship and professional development to support the launch of their career in the state.

It is the largest number of students in Skagit County to have been awarded the scholarships.

SELF-CARE CONFERENCE: The Skagit Valley College Human Services Club and the Veterans Club are co-hosting the second annual Jere LaFollette conference to address self care.

The event will be held at 8:15 a.m. May 22 at the Philip Tarro Theater on the college’s Mount Vernon campus.

The event is to help people — especially those in traumatic careers — cope with the stress. Panelists will include a representative from Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services, an ER nurse, national speaker Jendayi Stafford and mental health professionals.

INNOVATION EXPO: The Anacortes School District will host its second annual Innovation Expo from 5 to 7 p.m. May 29 at Anacortes Middle School.

The Innovation Expo is an opportunity for families, the community and industry partners to take a peek at the work being done in the district.

Shell Puget Sound Refinery, PACCAR, Janicki Industries, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, and the city of Anacortes will also have representatives at the event.

The event is free and open to the public.

SUMMER MEALS: The Sedro-Woolley School District will provide free meals this summer to those 18 and under.

The program will begin July 1 and run through Aug. 23.

Breakfast will be served from 9 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at Cascade Middle School.

There are no income requirements or registration.

PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION: First Lutheran Preschool is now registering students for the 2019-2020 school year.

Preschool classes are from 9 to 11:30 a.m Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. An optional fourth day is offered on Fridays for preschoolers planning on attending kindergarten the following year.

To register, children must be 3 years old by Oct. 1 and must be completely toilet trained.
