MOUNT VERNON — Joe Lindquist and Robbie Robertson led Tuesday’s primary race for the Skagit Public Utility District’s commission seat for the second district as of Tuesday’s vote count.

Lindquist led with about 54 percent of the votes that had been counted so far. Incumbent Robertson and Bill Swanson trailed behind with about 26 and 20 percent, respectively.

“We’ll see how it shakes out,” Lindquist said at the Skagit County Auditor’s office, where ballot counts were released. “Yeah, I’m happy.”

The PUD Board of Commissioners is a three-person team that designates water policy for the utility.

The second district seat serves residents in Mount Vernon, La Conner and southern Skagit County. Robertson has served as commissioner since 2001.

“I’m thankful that I’ve made it through in second place,” Robertson said. “Congrats to Joe for the win in his own backyard. I’m glad that I’m going to have a chance to run my third general re-election.”

If results hold, Lindquist and Robertson will square off in November.

An updated ballot count is expected later this week, according to the county Elections Department.
