Lorenzan Creek

Traffic using a detour on the Cascade Trail passes the installation of a 16-foot-wide box culvert on Lorenzan Creek in Concrete.

CONCRETE — Crews will soon move from the Lorenzan Creek fish passage project along Highway 20 in Concrete to the Fish Creek project site in Grassmere.

Two-foot diameter culverts that can create challenges for fish passage under the highway are being replaced with larger structures at both sites.

State Department of Transportation engineer Melissa Ambler said a new box culvert was put into place at Lorenzan Creek on Aug. 31. According to a news release, finishing touches are being wrapped up this week while a traffic detour is in place.

Use of the detour — where a signal is allowing alternating traffic along a newly paved section of the Cascade Trail — is expected to end over the weekend.

The new Lorenzan Creek structure is 16 feet wide, while the one to be installed at Fish Creek will be 19 feet wide.
