Rick Larsen, left, is running for a U.S. House of Representatives seat against Marc Hennemann.

Longtime Democratic U.S. Rep. incumbent Rick Larsen is leading in the race to retain his seat against political newcomer and Republican Marc Hennemann.

Across District 2, which includes Island and San Juan counties, and parts of Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom counties, Larsen is leading with 65 percent of the vote.

Larsen has about 58 percent of the vote in Skagit County.

“I’m very pleased with the campaign we’ve run,” Larsen said. “I’ve got a long list of things we need to work on, and I’m ready to go to work.”

An estimated 15,000 ballots remain to be counted, according to the Skagit County Auditor’s Office. The next count will be released Thursday.
