Burlington chamber luncheon includes barbecue

The Burlington Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly membership luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the park behind the Burlington Chamber of Commerce offices, 520 E. Fairhaven Ave.

The meeting will include a barbecue and business card bingo.

Costs are $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. An additional $3 will be charged for those who pay at the luncheon.

EDASC hosts free QuickBooks workshop

A QuickBooks workshop will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County, 204 W. Montgomery St., Mount Vernon.

Chris McGee of ProFound Impact will host the workshop.

EDASC schedules training

The Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County will hold a NextExec training session from 7:30 to 9 a.m. June 25 at the EDASC offices, 204 W. Montgomery St., Mount Vernon.

The session, titled Sharing your Successes or Failures, will be presented by Jacque Beamer, president and brand strategist at BrandQuerry LLC.

Costs for the session are $40 for EDASC investors, $45 for community members and $25 for students.

Opportunity zones info session set

The Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County will host Skagit County’s first opportunity zone information session from 4 to 6:30 p.m. June 25 at the Best Western Plus Skagit Valley Inn and Convention Center, 2300 Market St., Mount Vernon.

Opportunity zones are the product of a new tax law offering investors preferential capital gains tax treatment for projects that create housing, jobs or both in economically distressed census tracts, according to an EDASC news release.

The event will feature experts from the National Development Council, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and tax experts. Mayors from Sedro-Woolley, Anacortes and Mount Vernon will highlight the goals for their respective opportunity zones.

Workshop on government contracting

The Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County and the Washington Procurement Technical Assistance Center will hold a free workshop on government contracting for small business owners at 10 a.m. June 27 at the EDASC offices, 204 W. Montgomery St., Mount Vernon.
