Local CEO semifinalist for honor

Skagit Valley Malting CEO and President Dave Green is a semifinalist for a James Beard Foundation award.

Green is among 20 semifinalists nationwide in the Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Producer category.

The James Beard Foundation each year recognizes chefs, restaurateurs, authors and journalists. Skagit Valley Malting malts and germinates grains for brewers, distillers and bakers.

Five James Beard Foundation finalists per category will be announced March 27 in Houston and winners will be announced May 6 in Chicago.

Sedro-Woolley chamber to meet

The Sedro-Woolley Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly membership luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sedro-Woolley Community Center, 703 Pacific St.

The guest speaker will be Anna Rutherford, a Sedro-Woolley High School student who serves as a youth ambassador for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Costs for the luncheon are $17 for members and $20 for nonmembers.

Farm safety workshop set

The Washington State University Skagit County Extension will hold a farm machinery safety workshop March 18-29.

The workshop will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Extension offices, 11768 Westar Lane, Burlington. A deposit of $25 is required, with an additional $50 due by the end of the course in order to receive a certificate.

Brown bag seminar scheduled

The Washington State University Mount Vernon Research Center will host a brown bag seminar at noon to 1 p.m. Thursday in Sakuma Auditorium, 16650 Memorial Highway.

Steve Hinton, director of habitat restoration for the Skagit River System Cooperative, will give a presentation titled “Swinomish agland management: Past, present and future.” The seminar is free.

Anacortes chamber to meet

The Anacortes Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Anacortes City Hall council chambers, 904 Sixth St.

Register at Costs are $18 with RSVP or $20 at the door.

Burlington chamber luncheon slated

The Burlington Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly membership luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 20 at the Burlington Public Library.

Costs are $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. An additional $3 will be charged for those who pay at the door.
