The state Department of Natural Resources will conduct a controlled burn training exercise Thursday near Hamilton.
The training exercise is expected to start about 9 a.m. about 1.5 miles northeast of Hamilton within the DNR-managed forestland known as the Harry Osborne State Forest.
Smoke is expected to be visible from the Hamilton area and Highway 20, according to a news release from the department.
The training exercise, known as a “firing operation,” gives firefighters firsthand training in firefighting techniques in a controlled environment, the release states.
Crews, fire engines, water tenders and heavy equipment will be utilized, the release states.
After the training, crews will remain in the area to make sure the fires are completely extinguished, the release states.
