The following are criminal cases heard this week in Skagit County Superior Court:
A Mount Vernon man who led police on a vehicle chase through Skagit County earlier this month pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts related to the incident.
He was sentenced to 22 months in prison.
Richard Dale Whitehead Jr., 39, was arrested March 3 after eluding law enforcement officers from several agencies, at times reaching speeds up to 85 mph.
After multiple attempts to stop his vehicle using spike strips and PIT maneuvers, Whitehead was arrested by State Patrol troopers and booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center.
He pleaded guilty to one count of driving under the influence and one count of attempting to elude a police vehicle.
After serving his sentence, he will serve 24 months of community custody. He will also have to pay restitution for police vehicles damaged during the pursuit.
UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
A 35-year-old Mount Vernon man was sentenced to four years, nine months in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to unlawful possession of a firearm.
Because of a prior felony conviction, Shawn Ramon Delacruz was not allowed to own a firearm at the time federal agents served a search warrant at his home in July 2018 as part of a drug investigation. The search revealed a shotgun, court records show.
In exchange for his plea, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington has agreed not to file additional charges against Delacruz, Skagit County Senior Criminal Deputy Prosecutor Trisha Johnson said.
