With preliminary numbers in, U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene is leading in the race to retain her congressional seat.

In District 1, which includes parts of Skagit, Whatcom, Snohomish and King County, DelBene, a Democrat, has about 57 percent of the vote.

In Skagit County, DelBene leads challenger Robert J. Sutherland, a Republican, with about 54.6 percent of the vote.

“I’m really honored the voters have re-elected me,” DelBene said. “We have an incredible district and a diverse district. I has been an incredible opportunity for me to work with people in urban areas and rural areas.”

DelBene has represented the district since 2012.

An estimated 15,000 ballots remain to be counted, according to the Skagit County Auditor’s Office. The next count will be released Thursday.
