The Skagit County Elections Department reported that 17,754 ballots had been counted as of Tuesday night, and an estimated 14,000 more remained to be counted later this week.
Results aren't final, but there are a number of candidates with significant leads who are likely winners. Some races, however, are locked tight. In fact, one Sedro-Woolley City Council race is exactly tied.
Mount Vernon's school levy is failing, and Sedro-Woolley's public safety proposition is passing with this first count.
In four contested mayoral races, three of four incumbents are holding on so far with only Hamilton Mayor Joan Cromley falling behind the challenger. The mayors of Burlington, Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley were all in the lead in their respective races.
