Family: “I have three grown kids who all went to Anacortes High School and are all living around Puget Sound.”

Occupation: Estuary educator at the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

Education: Master’s in environmental education.

Job description: “I teach school programs. We have about 7,000 school kids who come here every year. I also schedule public presentations, do the reserve newsletter and help coordinate some volunteers.”

Reason for moving to Skagit County: “My husband builds wooden boats. This is one of the best places in the country to do that.”

Best part of living here: The natural beauty.

When you were younger, you wanted to be: A teacher, either physical education, art or music.

First job: Baby-sitting.

Best job: Current one.

Best childhood memory: Summer camp.

Person you admire most and why: “Ghandi for solving problems without violence, changing the world without violence.”

Things that brighten your day: “Energetic kids, bird songs. A lot of things brighten my day. I’d say my days are pretty bright.”

Favorite hobby: Gardening.

First thing you would do with $1 million: “I would give it to the land trust to preserve land.”

The world would be a better place if: People spent more time outdoors.

If you had three wishes: “I would wish that we would quit burning fossil fuels and put the brakes on climate change. I would wish for a more equitable world where there wasn’t such a gap between rich people and poor people. And I would wish we were more tolerant of people who are different from us.”

Three items you’d want on a desert island: “A piano, a big tree and plenty of clean water.”
