State Sen. Liz Lovelett, D-Anacortes, holds a commanding lead over Republican opponent Daniel Miller in the race to retain her seat, after preliminary general election results came in Tuesday night.
Lovelett holds 68% of the vote, or 18,732 votes, compared to Miller’s 31%, or 8,612 votes.
Lovelett, a Democrat and former Anacortes City Councilwoman, was appointed to represent the 40th Legislative District in February after the resignation of Kevin Ranker.
Lovelett did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday night.
Miller, who has run unsuccessfully for various elected positions, said his priorities are to reduce government waste, preserve individual liberty and stave off tax increases.
The 40th district includes San Juan County, southwestern Whatcom County and northwestern Skagit County, including Anacortes.
Ballots will continue to be counted until results are certified Nov. 26.
