MOUNT VERNON — With the end of the school year quickly approaching, students in the LaVenture Middle School dual language program celebrated Monday with family, food and presentations about the work they have done this school year.
“This is just a really beautiful experience for our kids,” teacher Nora Nuñez Gonzalez said.
For the celebration, students prepared presentations about their culture, traditions and their family trees.
Normally, graduating eighth graders exit the dual language program as they head into high school, Nuñez Gonzalez said.
Next year, however, the Mount Vernon School District will begin work to create dual language offerings at the high school so that students will be able to have a K-12 dual language experience, said Frank Atkinson, the district’s director of curriculum and professional development.
