BURLINGTON — The Port of Skagit has completed all required cleanup and monitoring of a site at Skagit Regional Airport that had been contaminated by pesticides and herbicides.
The site, which is adjacent to Taxiway F, became contaminated when it was used as a crop dusting base between 1978 and 2000, according to the state Department of Ecology.
In 2011 the port and Ecology entered into an agreement to clean up the site.
Cleanup took place between 2011 and 2013, followed by long-term monitoring, according to Ecology.
Port Executive Director Patsy Martin said in an email the site is currently used for equipment storage and may be developed for hangars for small aircraft.
