Weeks after Skagit County had to shut down its transfer station because of unreliable service from BNSF Railway, little has been done to fix the problem.

Grace Kane, the county’s Public Works director, said she hasn’t had to close the station since July 11, but it’s been close several times, as train cars that are supposed to carry garbage out of the county sometimes don’t arrive.
