Construction crews on the north side of the fallen Skagit River Bridge work Monday to assemble girder sections for a temporary bridge span Monday morning in Burlington.

The span will be used during the summer months while a permanent replacement span is built. The structure for the temporary span will be built on the north side of the bridge in two 24-foot-wide, two-lane sections, and will cover a missing span of 160 feet.

Jay Drye, assistant regional administrator for the state Department of Transportation, said he estimated the temporary span will be in place by June 21, and said plans now call for a permanent span to be installed by October.
