The Washington Trails Association worked Friday on a new segment of trail leading to Oyster Dome.

The work is being done to reduce foot traffic on an older section of the heavily used trail, thereby reducing hikers’ impact on the ecosystem and allowing for restoration along the old trail.

WTA trail crew leader Amelia Bethke led the group of volunteers Friday.

The WTA hopes to complete the reroute by the first weekend of May.
