MOUNT VERNON — Three suspects in the shooting death of a Mount Vernon man pleaded not guilty Thursday in Skagit County Superior Court.
Isaac Manuel Carrasco Jr., Hayden John Allen Picaman and Angel Lopez-Rueda each face one count of second-degree murder.
The three co-defendants were charged in connection with the murder of Jason Boyes, 38, of Mount Vernon.
Court records state that Boyes was watching TV at his apartment in the 2300 block of Kulshan View Drive with his girlfriend about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday when three men reportedly kicked down the front door, yelled at Boyes, shot him, then ran from the residence.
Carrasco, 21, and Picaman, 19, are both held on $1 million bail.
Jennifer Rancourt, the public defender representing Lopez-Rueda, 18, asked for charges to be dismissed against her client, saying the prosecution lacked evidence tying him to the crime.
Judge Dave Needy said the issue would be better handled outside of court, and said Rancourt could file a motion for dismissal and discuss the evidence with him. She said she intended to file that motion.
Needy did, however, lower Lopez-Rueda’s bail from $1 million to $500,000.
