FEBRUARY 23, 1964 - FEBRUARY 8, 2021 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Colleen passed away at home, surrounded by her husband, stepchildren, and friends. Colleen was born on February 23, 1964, in Mount Vernon, Washington, the second child of AW "Bill" and Patti Dynes. Other than eight months working as a nanny in New York, Colleen was a lifelong resident of Burlington. Colleen's grandfather started Dynes Farms in 1946 and she started early within the egg business, doing such jobs as picking and packing eggs, moving chickens, managing the farm store, and at the early age of three was featured on the front page of Skagit Valley Herald holding two baby chicks. The farm was an important part of Colleen's life and she spent many years handling the farm books, along with many other items farm related. She continued this work until shortly before her passing. Colleen also worked six years for Smiley Insurance, until it was necessary her health became her focus. Colleen attended Lucille Umbarger School and Burlington-Edison High School, graduating with the class of 1982. She made numerous friends in school, many of which have continued as lifelong friendships. One of these classmates, Craig Mullen, became her husband on March 24th, 2018. She and Craig spent the time they had together purchasing and remodeling a home in Burlington, spending time at their cabin in Winthrop, and loving each other until the end. Craig was by her side with loving support throughout Colleen's journey. Colleen loved traveling to warm locations and many of her favorite times were spent in Winthrop and Mazama. She spent many a day enjoying the get-togethers with those she loved. Her hobbies included reading, entertaining and cooking. Tacos were her specialty and she enjoyed making them for a crowd. Colleen is survived by her loving husband Craig, her stepchildren Craig Mullen, (Sarene), Carlee Mullen (Sterling), grandchildren, Chloe, Sadie, and four-month-old Averie, mother Patti Dynes, (Doug), brother Mike Dynes, (Jodi) nephew Matthew (Lisa), nieces Molly Dynes-Larson (Kyle) and Delaney Dynes, stepmother Sherry Dynes, Uncle Jim Dynes (Peggy), Aunt Elizabeth Wilson (Mike), in-laws Bonnie Graham (Wes), sister-in-law Denise McDonald (Russ), niece Makenna Codlin, Godchildren Kevin Rabenstein and Haylee Bajema, numerous cousins, and her sweet pup Gracie. She was proceeded in death by her father Bill, her uncle Chuck, her brother-in-law Larry Willis, her grandparents, and her beloved dog Stella. Colleen bravely battled stage four pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed in March of 2018. She fought long and hard to stay with us and we are grateful for the time we were able to spend with her. Special thanks to Dr. Kojouri, the kind nurses at the Cancer Care Center and to the wonderful Hospice caregivers. There will be a private graveside service, followed by a Celebration of Life to be held this summer. Memorials are suggested to the Skagit Valley Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Fund or Hospice of The Northwest, both located in Mount Vernon. Rest easy Colleen, no pain. We love you, miss you, and will hold you in our hearts forever. Please visit www.hawthornefh.com to share your thoughts and memories and sign the online guest register. Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, WA.
