Re: "Solar only works with subsidies" (Letters, May 24).

A recent letter to the editor excoriated government for subsidizing solar power. The truth is we assist all our energy sources through government. Oil and gas receive such favorable tax treatment that the companies often pay no taxes and, in fact, receive money back from the government, as ExxonMobil did in 2016.

There has never been a nuclear power plant built solely with private capital.

Assisting solar power is the best option because it makes the most sense for future generations. That’s one of government’s more important missions: invest in tomorrow; our children and grandchildren will thank us.
