About 80 people helped celebrate the opening of “Spirit Helpers of the Ancestral Realm,” an art collection by Jay Bowen on display at Cassera Gallery in Stanwood. The art opening Friday, Jan. 7, featured music from Swil Kanim, a violinist, native storyteller and member of the Lummi Nation. In addition, the show started with a smudging ceremony and a traditional potlatch ceremony with speeches and music by members of the Swinomish and Upper Skagit tribes. Bowen is a poet, steel sculptor, glass blower, fine gold jeweler and fine-art oil painter — the latter being the focus of the Stanwood show. The art is on display now through Feb. 4 at Cassera Gallery in Stanwood.
