Outdoor burning is banned in Island County, effective Saturday, June 15, until further notice. Reduced moisture levels, low humidity and warmer temperatures have increased the risk of fire.
Recreational fires in approved fire pits, barbecue grills and self-contained camp stoves are allowed.
Island County Sheriff Rick Felici, in concurrence with Whidbey and Camano fire districts and the Northwest Clean Air Agency, announced the Type 1 Burn Ban throughout the county for all outdoor burning, even if a permit was issued.
Violations should be reported by calling 911.
