Stanwood rallied to take down No. 8 Lincoln 40-35 in a winner-to-state Week 10 playoff game on Friday night.
In an offense-heavy game, Isaiah Hughes’ late interception helped seal the Spartan victory — their first playoff win since 1996.
After Hughes’ pick, quarterback Michael Mascotti hit tight end Tripp Loertscher over the middle to convert a fourth-and-7 with less than 2 minutes to play, allowing the Spartans to run the clock out.
Ryder Bumgarner led the team with three touchdowns and an interception.
“This is what we knew this team was capable of from the start,” head coach Jeff Scoma said after the game.
The Spartans scored a touchdown on every offensive possession except the final drive to drain the clock.
“Can’t ask for much more than that,” Scoma said.
Stanwood will learn its round-of-16 opponent after the bracket is determined Sunday.
