Boys soccer: Oak Harbor at Stanwood, 4.26.16

Stanwood boys soccer coach Steve Brown looks on during Stanwood's 2-0 victory over Oak Harbor on Tuesday, April 26, 2016.

Stanwood High boys soccer coach Steve Brown resigned Friday after leading the program for the past six seasons.

The job opening will be posted at fasttrack.stanwood-camano.wa-k12.net and should close in early July, said Tom Wilfong, SHS athletic director.

The Spartans ended this season 4-11-1, but boasted a 2-1-1 record on their home pitch. But the home-field advantage didn’t last long as the Stanwood stadium shut down in late March for construction work.

If a coach is hired in July, they will have the remainder of the month to work with the kids, Wilfong said, citing WIAA rules.

The annual alumni soccer game will not be played this summer.

Brown replaced Kyle Veach, who left after the 2013 season to take over the Glacier Peak boys soccer team.
