Stanwood football will play Friday night after all.
The Spartan football team started practice after school Tuesday preparing for their season finale Friday at Everett. But coaches learned shortly after that Everett decided to forfeit, ending both teams' seasons.
"We stopped practice and that's how our season ended," head coach Eric Keizer said Tuesday.
Stanwood officials searched, but could not find another opponent to schedule in place of Everett.
But on Wednesday morning, Sultan forfeited their scheduled game against Nooksack Valley 7 p.m. Friday. By 2 p.m., Nooksack Valley accepted Stanwood's offer to play.
"I said, 'yes, yes, yes,'" Keizer said Wednesday afternoon when he heard the offer to play Nooksack Valley. "We're excited."
Stanwood will practice Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for their season finale.
The Spartans are coming off a 60-14 victory over Lynnwood last week.
They'll be facing a 4-5 Pioneers team that averaged 25 points per game in the 1A Northwest Conference — home to Lynden Christian, Meridian and Mount Baker.
The field is at 3326 E. Badger Rd. in Everson — about 40 minutes northeast of Bellingham in rural Whatcom County.
