After a stellar high school career, Anacortes distance runner Saville Feist will compete for the Portland State University cross country and track and field teams.
She said a January visit to the NCAA Division I school sealed the deal.
“We clicked well. I liked the coaching staff and everyone there was inviting,” she said. “I’m not sure what I want to study yet, but they offer everything I’d want to study.”
Feist was a two-time Skagit Valley Herald Girls’ Cross Country Runner of the Year.
At the Class 2A state track and field meet in May, she placed third in the 3,200 (11 minutes, 30.18 seconds) and second in the 1,600 (5:12.63).
Feist said she’s looking forward to spending time in — and around — Portland.
“Portland will be a fun city to live in, but also fun to escape ... there are so many trails around, and Mount Hood and Cannon Beach,” she said.
