The Skagit Valley College baseball team saw its first day of postseason action Friday end with mixed results.

The Cardinals clobbered Lane 15-1 in the first round of the Northwest Athletic Conference North Super Regional, but lost 9-1 in its matchup with Tacoma.

Cameron Bogard hit a three-run home run and Derek Cherryholmes hit a two-run shot as the Cardinals won the first game; Cherryholmes, Logan Ho and Baxter Halligan each had three hits. Diego Mellos got the win with four innings of work on the mound.

Starting pitcher Baxter Halligan had an RBI in the second game, but Tacoma got one home run each from Justin VanDeBrake, Brock Gagliardi and Thomas Wheeler.

The Cardinals will face Lane again at noon Saturday at Tacoma Community College’s Minnitti Field in a loser-out contest. The winner will face Tacoma at 3 p.m. to determine the North’s second berth to the NWAC Championships next week at Lower Columbia in Longview.

At the NWAC Softball Championships in Spokane, the entire first day was rained out. Skagit Valley is scheduled to play Bellevue at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
