SEATTLE — Sedro-Woolley tennis players Anna Rutherford and Maya Becerra enjoyed a strong finish on Saturday at the Class 2A State Tournament.

The two players teamed up to win twice and place fourth among the 16 doubles teams.

Rutherford and Becerra beat Stella Fosberg and Chloe Watson of Highline 6-3, 6-0 in a loser-out match, then defeated Louli Ziels and Britney Butcher of Bellingham 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 in the match for fourth place.

In the singles bracket, Burlington-Edison’s Lyndsee Fleury lost to Mary-Frances Ballew of Selah 6-1, 6-1 to fall short of placing in the tournament.

State 2A Boys’ Championships

SEATTLE — Anacortes senior Luke Rutz dropped his two matches on Saturday to finish fifth in the singles bracket.

He lost to Josh Chou of Sammamish 6-0, 6-1 in a semifinal-round match, then fell to Masato Kuroshima of Ephrata 7-6, 6-2 in the match for third place.
