MOUNT VERNON — It was a busy Monday at Skagit Valley College as it hosted the girls’ Bi-District 2A Tennis Tournament.

And after Monday’s action, a singles player from Burlington-Edison is continuing on to state and a doubles team from Sedro-Woolley has the chance to join her.

“Lyndsee did so well,” Burlington-Edison coach Joel Wasson said. “We were very proud of how she played and how smart she was with her game. ... It was a good learning experience heading to state in a couple of weeks.”

In doubles, Sedro-Woolley’s Anna Rutherford and Maya Becerra had to work for their victory.

The team battled for a 6-7 (7), 6-0, 6-2 victory over a team from Sehome.

Rutherford and Becerra will play today in the third/fourth-place match with the winners advancing to the state tournament.

“They (Rutherford and Becerra) played hard tonight to win the chance to go to state,” Sedro-Woolley coach Janine Van Liew said. “It was such a great team effort.”
