Two Mount Vernon Christian boys’ golfers will make return trips to the state tournament.

Next week in Tumwater, Kyle Ekkelkamp will make his third appearance at the state meet and Max Hanson will make his second after both golfers finished in the top six in the Bi-District 2B/1B Tournament.

Ekkelkamp placed third with an 83 at Gallery Golf Course in Oak Harbor; Hanson placed sixth with a 93.

Hurricanes coach Jeff Droog said Ekkelkamp was consistent over 18 holes; Hanson, Droog added, had a bumpy start, but gained steam as he went on, moving up several spots on the leaderboard over the last nine holes.

“He went from eighth to sixth after the turn,” Droog said.

The two-day Class 1B/2B state tournament begins Tuesday at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.
