LAKEWOOD — The Skagit Valley College women's basketball team picked up a win Tuesday, beating Pierce 57-53.

The Cardinals, who led by 12 points to begin the fourth quarter, twice had their lead trimmed to two points in the final minutes of the game.

But each time they responded, first with a basket by Kagari Tomita, then with a free throw by Kailyn Allison.

Tomita finished with 16 points, while Grace Shaddle added 11 and Isabel Buchert 10. Shaddle was the team's leader in rebounds with eight and Tomita had seven.

Skagit Valley is 1-1.
